Happy Valentines Day!

Hi Blogland, and Happy Valentines Day to you all..
What do you do when you get a call from a friend late in the afternoon the day before Valentines Day asking for a card! Well, obviously if you knew what they were going to ask you would ignore the call I guess! But as I did pick up, the other obvious thing to do was to keep it simple.. or as they say in the "Compare the Market" (Meer Cat) advert on TV "simple"s"....
So that's exactly what I did!I punched out several hearts using the Martha Stewart Eyelet Heart Punch (M42-35004) onto some Gold and Red Embossed card stock..
I had the idea, albeit a very quick idea given the limited notice, of having a hanging heart in an apertureas we had had some new tri fold apertures delivered recently.So I cut off one end of the aperture card so that there would be no backing for the aperture.Then glued the hearts to the outside edge of the aperture,.lining each heart up with the Gold rim of the card.I then took Two hearts and glued them together, placing a piece of clear thread in between them before actually sticking them together.
This was attached under the top and bottom heart at the front so that the tape holding the thread to the card would not been seen, which it would have been if it was adhered to the inside of the card as of course I had cut off the backing page which would have hidden and joining.Once done, I added the sentiment in the spaces in between each heart.. and voila!
Hope you like it and that my mates other half does too.. As it was so quick and simple to do I even had time to make one for the shop, so all in all a good hours work..

You've captured my heart

Hi Blogland. A bit corny I know, but for all you romantics out there, this ones for you... With Valentines Day fast approaching I wanted to share with you a project I made the other day..February is the Month of love, so using the craft tool I LOVE the most, my Cricut! this is what I came up with...I cut out 4 bird cage images @ 8" from the Serenade Cricut cartridge.
My initial intention was to just cut out one and use it on a card as a one dimensional object. But when I cut the first image out,the waste which was cut to form the bars of the cage gave me the idea to use them as corners to link more imagesto form a complete 3D cage.I then cut out my Silhouette image from Love Struck. This is one of the limited edition cartridges and has many great images for not only Valentines, but weddings, engagements etc, etc. This image was cut at 3 3/4" onto Black Mirror card. I then cut the Blackout image onto Pink Mirror cardand stuck to two together using Pinflair glue. I did this twice so that I had an image for the front and one for the back so that when it spins round you get to see both sides.Before I stuck the two sets of images together I applied some clear thread to the back of one imageso that I could hang it inside the cage.The cage looked ok'ish, but needed something else, so I cut some branches from the Mothers Day cartridge, another of the new Limited Edition cartridges and applied them to the outside of the Bird cage.I then cut out a few Butterflies using my Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch in the same Pink Mirror card used for the silhouette background and randomly added them to the outside of the cage. I also printed a sentiment from my PC and matted and layered it to co ordinate with the project.The last thing I added were some clear beads for the top of the cage. I glued them together with Pinflair glue and allowed them to dry before adding them all to the top of the cage.
I hope you like this creation.. Now who do I give it to?? Decisions, decisions...

New Toys!!

Hi Everyone, We had a delivery this week of the New Cuttlebug Embossing Folders...
11 have been released including some more of the 5"x7" size.. Of course it was far to difficult to choose which ones to have so yes! I had the lot!!And here's what I came up with using some of the new folders, Nesabilities Lables, and the new Forever Friends Going to the Chapel range...
Using Nestabilities as Stack it's! is nothing new and I have seen a few people demonstrating them.. Using low tac tape, magnets etc.. Personally I just line them up by eye, which works for me!Firstly, I cut pieces of card stock to fit my Cuttlebug Folder Design and embossed them through the Cuttlebug Machine... eerrmmm Yes that is the NEW Pink Cuttlebug machine you see in the background!!I then took one of the Labels set of Nestabilities and sat the dies that would fit on my image in the middle of the embossed card and ran it through the machine.Which produced a positive and a negative image.Then I placed a difference coloured piece of card under the original and placed the next sized dies in the centre, pretty accurate I think you'll agree? Then ran this die through the machine, and so on and so on, alternating my colours as I went.I was then left with a set of positive and negative images to play around with.The image with the largest aperture will need a lot of support as it is quite flimsy, so apply as much foam tape as you can without it being seenand lay it onto the next sized image.Repeat this process until you have used all of your cut outs.Don't forget your positives either!!I also had a play with the Jules Jewels Embossing Folder,I know it's difficult, if not impossible to see but the White is also embossed with the intricate Butterfly design. The whole design is cut so that the design of the embossing folder continues in each layer.I hope you like these samples, I'm going to give them a go in Saturday's Cuttlebug lesson I think..

Love is in the air...

Happy February everyone.. Where did January go? One minute I was celebrating New Years Eve and the beginning of 2010 and the next minute... whoop there it is! we're in February. I can officially state though that Christmas is well and truly over.. And how do I know that??.. The Quality Street tin now only has those penny toffee's left in it, so that's it for them. I do have plans for the tin though.. Watch this space!!
I was planning to post over the weekend, but I'm afraid I just did not have the time. For those who aren't aware, it was Pinnacle Crafts Club Members Discount Weekend.. and boy was it a Discount Weekend!With walls stripped bare of goodies from one end of the shop to the other..Our Martha Stewart Punches were filled up 4 times and we were still left with bare walls!! Oh well, that gives me a great reason to go off shopping myself with the wholesalers to replenish and find some more goodies for you all..So, now we are in February and it's the 1st of the Month it's Blog Candy time again.And the lucky winner drawn at random is DAGBIRD.. I hope you enjoy them..So, as February is the Month of love I wanted to share a card I made recently. Here's how it was made.
Take an A4 piece of card and measure in from one side and make a mark at 2", 4", 8" & 10" and score. On the outside score lines measure 2" from the top and 2" from the bottom and cut across the card.Fold your card up as shown. I also added some mats of Red Mirror card (yes, I know Mirror card again!)I embossed the Forever & Always Sizzix Folder again onto some Red Mirror card,the whole impression was far to big to go on the card so I trimmed it downand matted it on some Gold Mirror cardand applied it to the side of my Quad Fold card.Which I think is pretty effective!I then punched a Red and Gold Heart using Martha Stewart Lace Heart Punch and mounted the Red onto the Gold using Pinflair Glue.The Gold gives the Heart a bit more dimension and stops the Red Hearts getting lost on the card..The far side of the card was looking a bit empty ( a bit like the shelves in the shop at the moment! not for long though!!) so I took one of the Cuttlebug Embossing Borders embossed on Red and matted onto Gold Mirror card to add a little more interest..
